The Crucible of Complexity

May put me in the deep end of complex project leadership – multiple stakeholders, high stakes, nuanced problems without straightforward solutions. This kind of work demands everything simultaneously: technical depth, business acumen, communication precision, rapid execution, feedback iteration, and emotional regulation under pressure.

Leading Through Ambiguity
Complex projects with multiple stakeholders resist simple solutions. The work requires understanding technical and business dimensions while communicating at the right granularity for each audience. Ensuring quick action while maintaining quality. Running feedback loops for continuous iteration. Staying calm when everything feels urgent. This isn't just difficult – it's a completely different skill set from individual contributor work. Since this is hard, I want to get exceptionally good at it.

Infrastructure as Acceleration
Set up our team's AWS account and onboarded to the cloud development environment. Having direct access to compute resources transforms prototyping from theoretical to practical. When you can test concepts immediately rather than waiting for access or approval, iteration speed increases dramatically. Infrastructure isn't just technical foundation – it's competitive advantage through speed.

AI-First Methodology
Continuously using AI intentionally across every aspect of work and life. The question isn't whether to use AI, but how to leverage it before doing anything manually. Coding, brainstorming, document creation (PRDs, Technical Requirements), writing, shopping, travel planning, learning – AI becomes the first tool, not the last resort. This requires rewiring default behaviors from "do then optimize" to "AI-assist then validate."

Building Tools That Fit
Built mintra.gg – a keyboard-first time logging app – to replace the spreadsheets I'd been using for daily time tracking. Sometimes the perfect tool doesn't exist, so you build it. Keyboard-first design reflects how I actually work, not how generic tools assume people work. Custom tools that match your exact workflow create outsized productivity gains.

May's lesson: as problems become more complex and stakes higher, success requires orchestrating multiple dimensions simultaneously – technical, interpersonal, strategic, and operational. AI amplifies capability, but complex leadership remains fundamentally human work. The goal isn't to eliminate complexity, but to develop the capacity to navigate it effectively.
